Once upon a time, to be specific actually around 1986,two people met accidentally at a FASEB conference in Washington. One of these was Prof Tony Macknight and the other Engineer Boris Schlensky. Tony was showing off a data recording system developed on a Macintosh by Tony's son Michael in support of his masters thesis. Boris who had been involved in data acquisition for the previous 30 years was really impressed by the simplicity of the program. This was partly due to the use of the Macintosh User interface which turned a complex process into something that even a Life Scientist could.
